Weekly Market Recap

The S&P 500 fell over 3%, posting its worst weekly sell off since September. The S&P 500 is now testing its 200-Day Moving Average. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.4%, entering a technical correction. Market sentiment remained weak despite President Trump’s decision to delay tariffs under the USMCA trade deal.

President Trump exempted Mexican and Canadian goods from 25% tariffs until April 2, marking another shift in trade policy. However, investor confidence remained fragile, and stocks struggled to recover from the week’s losses.

The U.S. labor market showed mixed signals, with job growth stabilizing but unemployment rising. Nonfarm payrolls added 151,000 jobs in February after a downward revision to January’s data. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.1%, reflecting a complex economic backdrop.

In bond markets, short-term Treasuries rallied while longer-term yields remained little changed as the U.S. 10-Year Treasury Yield ended the week at 4.30%. The U.S. dollar index extended its losing streak to four sessions, its longest since September.

The Mexican peso and Canadian dollar strengthened on news of the tariff reprieve. Australian and New Zealand bond yields fell early Friday, reflecting cautious global sentiment.
